A Note from Chris - November 11, 2021

Serving is one of the main tenets of following Jesus. To know and love Him is to serve others. They are inseparable.

Jesus famously said, “For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve others and to give his life as a ransom for many.” (Mark 10:45)

You likely serve others in Jesus’ name among your family, with friends, in your neighborhood, at church, and in a variety of other ways as situations arise. Specifically, the church serving together provides not only an opportunity to us to serve and meet needs, but also to be a force of love and service to our community.

Over the past three weeks, we hosted three different serve weekends with different folks from both campuses coming together to serve our community. We had over 75 volunteers logging over 250 hours in our community. These folks cleaned up houses for rehab with R3 Development in East St. Louis, cleaned up space for students to come and connect with Jesus at Restoration Ranch, and hosted a fall festival with Love the Lou and 2 other churches in north city St. Louis. While the turnout could have been greater, our partners were thrilled and honored to work with us. As a church, we send a message of love when we become the hands and feet of Jesus in the greater community.

If you are part of a small group, have a conversation about serving together with one of our local partners. If you are not in a group and would like to join a group to serve alongside them and grow together, please respond to this email! Our team will do our best to connect you with some other folks. Let’s continue to tell our local community that collectively we are for them and love them and will always be willing to serve them.

Our next large group serve opportunity is Dec 11 when we will host a Christmas party for Kids at the Christian Activity Center in East St. Louis. This has been an incredible event in years past, but was cut short last year because of COVID. If you or your family would like to be a part of this great event, you can sign up to serve at onecornerstone.org/events.

Part of our partnership with CAC is buying Christmas gifts for kids each year. You have been so incredible at this over the years. I am always so proud at how our church steps up to get gifts for some kids who are in need. If you are willing to get a gift or two, please check out the link at onecornerstone.org/events.

We have a few more weeks working through I Corinthians on Sundays. If you haven’t read I Corinthians yet, what are you waiting for? As you read through a book like I Corinthians, new things jump out at you each time. God has so much to teach us and new ways to lead us into truth. Take some time before Sunday and read through chapter 12 as we prepare to worship together.

If you are local and are not attending in person, you are truly missing the party! We hope to see you this Sunday!

Yours & His,
Chris VandeLinde
