CHURCH!
What a great week worshiping our Lord as we remember his birth, the greatest gift ever given. While I wasn’t able to be present in person this year due to a really poorly timed COVID close-contact quarantine, I worshiped online with my family, and I’ve been hearing all week about how fantastic our worship time was as a church.
“Meaningful.” “Heartfelt and worshipful.” “A great reminder of what Christmas is all about.” “Excellent worship, timely message.”
While some of those are not direct quotes, I have heard those and similar sentiments all week and seen them on social media. I’m so very proud of our team. Every person from creative arts to greeters to children’s ministry to set-up/tear-down to decorations to student ministry and beyond did incredible work to both celebrate our Lord and create an inviting atmosphere for our Ones. Overall, we had the highest attendance of the year, and the largest gathering since we re-opened for in-person worship. I’m prayerful this energy will carry into the New Year!
A few things this week as we wrap up 2021:
1) Year End Giving
Our Cornerstone Cares fund is at $17,920 after our Christmas services. Our goal is $60,000 for year-end gifts, the first $20,000 going to Oasis International to help serve refugees from Afghanistan in St. Louis. If you have considered a year-end gift or would prayerfully do so today, this is the time! Our family sent in our gift yesterday with a prayer that God would continue to use us locally and around the world to his glory. You may give your gift here.
2) New Shiloh Service Times
With our recent growth on Sundays in Shiloh and an expected surge in the new year, we are adding a service at Shiloh and adjusting the service times beginning January 16.
Here are the new times: 9:00am, 10:30am, and 12:00pm
We need 100 people to help launch the 12:00pm service, which will be followed by a lunch option on campus. If you are willing to help us get this service started, please let us know by clicking here.
3) State of the Church weekend
On Sunday January 9, I will give a State of the Church Address, complete with some highlights from 2021 and some exciting things to look forward to in 2022 in terms of our direction and vision. I hope you will plan to join me that weekend as we prayerfully look forward to what God has in store next year. Each year has its challenges, but with them come great opportunity to be the hands and feet of Jesus. Are you excited about next year? Are you prayerful that God will use Cornerstone in powerful ways in the new year? Are you praying for your Ones and using your gifts to the greatest extent for his name’s sake? I am praying that 2022 will be the most Jesus-focused, God-honoring year in our church’s history. I hope you will join me!
Happy New Year!
Yours and His,
Chris VandeLinde
