2023 is off to a great start at Cornerstone!
The past two weekends have been two of our biggest attendance weekends since before COVID. Multiple ministries have relaunched, and excitement is high. Let me encourage you in this new year to LOCK IN. There is no better time than now to get locked into a serving opportunity, connect your kids and students in their age-specific ministries, get your giving consistent, and join a group.
This weekend is the 2nd week of 3 of our Groups Expo. We have groups planning to meet in homes and on campus and on multiple days of the week. Some are for couples, some are not. Some are for women, some are for men, some are for both. Some are continuing, some are new. All of them together are aiming to “pass it on,” growing through our P.A.S.S. strategy to Pray, Act, Study, and Serve. If you are not in a group, would you prayerfully consider joining this week? God has more for you this year, and being in a group is a major way to jump start or grow in faith. If you’d like to take a digital tour through our groups and perhaps sign up, you can do so here. If you have questions, take a moment to talk to one of our staff or volunteers at the Groups Expo in the lobby on Sunday or reach out digitally through the website contact info.
Last week was a great start to our “Life Under Construction” series in the book of Nehemiah. If you missed it, you can catch up here. All of us have areas of life we’d like to change. Nehemiah’s example and life can help. Take a moment and read through Nehemiah 1 and 2 as we prep for our time of worship this weekend. I can hardly wait to worship with you and share what God has put on my heart to share about a path to real change with his help.
If you’d like to dig a bit deeper or have a greater overview on Nehemiah, see if your Bible has a book overview in front of the actual text or check out the Bible Project’s book summary here.
We can celebrate this week that more than 1,700 lives were changed in a completely unreached area of Batticaloa, Sri Lanka through a gospel outreach effort led by Josh Howard. This was the first effort like this since COVID and since an Easter Sunday bombing against Christians a few years ago that rocked the island. Hundreds gave their lives to Jesus and will be a part of a brand new church that launched last Sunday. Josh often films a daily summary after the event to give churches like us some celebration points and focus on how to pray. You can see Josh’s final summary as well as subscribe to his page if you’d like here.
Thanks for being an incredible church, Cornerstone. I am confident that this year will be the BEST year in our church’s history, and that God has huge things in store. He is showing himself in so many ways. Lives are being transformed. Walls are falling down. Confession is happening. It doesn’t mean the brokenness is gone immediately, but that we are together turning to the Great Physician as he leads and heals us. Much love!
Yours & His,
Chris VandeLinde
